On April 7, 2024, Dreamteck Ltd. completed the implementation of the project “Innovative Technology for Procedural Generation of Levels in Open World Games” under Contract No. 13IF-02-12/07.12.2022, funded by the National Innovation Fund – 13th session.
Within the framework of the project implementation, all activities and tasks were executed according to the project proposal. The set goal of developing a product up to TRL5 level – a validated system in a simulated environment – was achieved through conducted industrial scientific research. As a result, an innovative system for procedurally generating levels and points of interest was developed by building heightmap terrain using pre-made templates.
The project’s outcomes serve as a basis for a wide range of applications, not only in the gaming industry. The terrain blending system can be utilized in simulation software as well as educational software for children related to reading geographical maps and in architectural visualization projects.
Outlined and achieved indicators: PHASE 1
- Final report on project implementation, analysis, and evaluation of the degree of goal achievement.
PHASE 2
- Report including a study and analysis of relevant models and technologies for developing techniques and tools in the Unity engine for automated level generation.
- Analysis report from the conducted external scientific research with applicable approaches for transferring terrain information between industry-standard software packages and the Unity platform.
- Technical specification of the innovative system. Documented research results that can be used in the future. Any customization of tasks will require reference to these documents.
PHASE 3
- Report on developed and tested combinations of algorithms to achieve the most optimal blending of terrains.
- Database of developed terrain templates and functional level layouts.
- Report describing the rules for creating an algorithm for automated level generation.
PHASE 4
- Report on the integration of individual elements into the system. The report will include visual-demonstrative materials.
- Created optimized simulation model of the system. Proving the achievement of the goal – TRL 5 level of the innovative technology.
